DIY Fabric Scrap Wreath Tutorial (AKA: Turn Old Christmas Jammies Into Holiday Decor)

This DIY fabric scrap wreath tutorial is PERFECT if you are:

  • wondering what to do with all of your scrap fabric
  • stumbled upon a holiday fabric sale at your local craft store and grabbed a few yards “just in case.”
  • Or…you’re like me — someone who has a hard time letting go of old clothes because you keep thinking: “I’ll patch that up someday…” or “I still wear that sometimes!” (Yeah, sure. Okay. Let’s stop pretending. 😅)

Instead of letting those scraps pile up or those Christmas jammies sit in the closet another year, let’s do something cute and crafty with them!

This DIY fabric scrap wreath is festive, cozy, and ridiculously easy to make. Whether you’re crafting solo on a snowy afternoon or hosting a little holiday girls’ night (ahem… Pizza and Pajamas anyone?), this project is the perfect mix of creative and nostalgic.

Why You’ll Love This Holiday Tutorial

  • It’s sustainable christmas decor — you’re repurposing fabric instead of tossing it
  • It’s budget-friendly — seriously, Dollar Tree wreath frame + old pajamas = done
  • It’s sentimental — especially if you’re using old PJs or fabric with memories attached

And most importantly? It’s fun — and gives you that perfect cozy, crafty holiday feeling without a single trip to a crowded mall.

Scrap Fabric Christmas Wreath Supplies

Here’s what you’ll need to create your scrap fabric Christmas wreath:

  • ✂️ Scrap fabric (I used old Christmas pajamas — highly recommend!)
  • 🧵 Fabric shears or sharp scissors
  • 🎄 A wreath wire frame (mine’s from the Dollar Tree — no need to splurge)
  • 🎀 Ribbon or any extra embellishments (mini ornaments, pinecones, etc. — totally optional)

Scrap Fabric Wreath Instructions

Next, I’ll show you how to make a fabric wreath with scraps in this step-by-step tutorial. Alternatively, you can watch my video tutorial on Instagram!

By the way… If you’re crafting with friends, this is the perfect “chat while you tie” kind of project — low stress, high payoff.

Step 1: Cut Your Scrap Fabric into Strips

Start by cutting your fabric into strips. I like to mix up the widths and lengths — it makes the finished wreath look more organic and dimensional instead of too “perfect.”

Just make sure each strip is long enough to wrap around your wreath frame and tie with a little extra left over. (Tip: cut one and test it first so you don’t end up trimming them all too short!)

Step 2: Tie Your Fabric Strips to the Wreath Frame

Here’s where it gets super easy — and kinda therapeutic.

Take a strip of fabric, wrap it around the wire frame, and tie it in a knot. Leave the ends free so they fluff and overlap a bit. Then repeat… and repeat… and repeat.

You can vary how tightly you pack your strips depending on how full you want your wreath to look. I like mine nice and fluffy, so I keep tying until it’s packed with texture.

Step 3: Add a Little Flair to Your Finished Wreath

Once you’ve made your way all around the wreath, it’s time to embellish!

For mine, I kept it simple, using the drawstring on my pajamas as the hanger, and added a big bow tied at the top. But you could totally:

  • Hot glue on mini ornaments or bells
  • Tuck in faux greenery or holly
  • Add a tag with your family name or a festive message

Whatever fits your style (and your fabric stash).

Step 4: Fluff and Hang Your Scrap Fabric Christmas Wreath

Before hanging, give your wreath a quick fluff — rearrange any pieces that got squished and make sure your bow or embellishments are centered.

Then hang it on your door, above your mantel, or even in a window for that cozy handmade touch.
