DIY Wedding Seating Chart Instructions

First, we’ll start by prepping your window. Afterall… we gotta get it from shabby to CHIC!

Follow the step-by-step instructions below and watch the video for a visual of each step!

Prepping Your Window Pane

  1. Clean and Prep the Window
Start with a thorough cleaning using dish soap to remove dirt and grime. Then use your razor blade to remove any loose, peeling paint.
  2. Remove Hardware
Use a screwdriver to take off any hinges or locks. Then fill holes with wood filler and let dry. Once the wood filler has dried, sand those spots down, along with any rough spots until the entire window frame is smooth.
  3. Paint the Frame
Apply a base coat of primer first to prep the raw wood for paint. Then use painter’s tape and old magazines or newspaper to cover the glass before spray paiting.
  4. Add the Wow Factor
Spray paint the frame in your chosen color for a chic finish. Allow it to dry completely before moving on.

Creating Your Seating Chart

Now, let’s get into the fun bits! Transforming your window frame into a spectacular wedding seating chart!

  1. Prep you Seating Chart Frame
Next, I recommend measuring out your frame to determine how many seating chart cards it can hold and at what size. Make sure you’re also leaving space at the top for text, such as “Find Your Seat,” like I did.
  2. Print your Seating Chart Cards
Grab your seating chart card template and finalize each card with your guests’ names. Then, print them out on cardstock and trim them to size.
  3. Customize the Glass
Use a white marker to write the title of your seating chart directly onto the glass. I use the phrase “Find Your Seat,” but you can write whatever you’d like! Keep the lines clean and elegant using painters tape and your ruler!
  4. Secure Your Seating Chart Cards
Finally, secure your seating chart cards with double-stick tape and finish with your wax seals (optional).

A Few Tips for Success

Give Yourself Time: This project requires patience, so plan ahead and enjoy the process.

Repurpose and Save: Maximize your budget by reusing supplies and materials you already have. For me, the only things I had to buy were the paint and spray paint!

Practice, practice, practice: When hand writing any wedding signage, it’s so important to practice before you do it for real. Use scrap paper and practice writing until you get the feel for it.
