First, here’s what you’ll need for this DIY bat lamp. I spent only $5 ($1 on the poster board and $4 for the mounting squares), as the rest of these items are free and/or supplies you should have at home.
- My free bat printable
- Black poster board (I recommend grabbing poster board from the Dollar Tree for $1!) or construction paper
- Exacto knife, or box cutter
- Cutting mat, or a piece of spare cardboard (to protect your work surface)
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Clear mounting squares, or double-sided tape

Cheap Halloween Decor Tutorial: DIY Bat Lamp
Halloween decorations don’t need to be expensive. Make this cheap Halloween decoration in five simple steps and transform your home into a spooky entertaining space to celebrate the season!
Step 1 – Print out your bat template. I recommend cardstock as it is more durable and will hold up better with multiple uses.
Step 2 – Score the outlines with your scoring knife until the paper is perforated enough to pop out your bat shapes.
Step 3 – Next, lay out your poster board (or construction paper) and use your template to draw as many bats as you’d like using your pencil. You can fit a TON on a single sheet of poster board and you won’t need that many for a single lamp. However, if you’re decorating multiple lamps, go for it and make as many bats as your heart desires!
Step 4 – Cut out your bats using scissors until you’ve got a nice little pile for attaching to your lampshade.
Step 5 – Stick your bats to the inside of your lamp shade using your clear mounting squares (or double-sided tape). Arrange them how you’d like as you go.
I decided to take mine all the way up my wall, and also bend a few to look like they are making a turn out the door. Have fun with yours and get creative!
