You’ve probably seen it floating around Pinterest: a DIY pumpkin wine decanter that looks equal parts festive and impressive. I’ll be honest—I didn’t invent this idea. But after seeing it pop up one too many times, I thought, okay, let’s give this a try and see how hard it really is.

What You’ll Need for Your DIY Pumpkin Wine Decanter

  • Large foam pumpkin (around 13”). I found mine on clearance at Michaels for about $10, but if you’re buying earlier in the season, this two-pack from Amazon is a great deal.
  • Boxed wine – Any brand will work! I like Bota Box or Black Box for taste and price.
  • Cutting tool – A box cutter or Exacto knife works best.
  • Pencil – For tracing your cut lines.

Optional extras:

  • Black Sharpie or paint pen if you want to decorate your pumpkin with a festive saying like “Eat, Drink & Be Scary” or “Pumpkin Spiced Wine.”
  • Disposable wine glasses to make serving a breeze. (These plastic amber-colored glasses are PERFECT for a fall celebration)

Below are the instructions to follow along, but if you’re more of a visual learner, check out my reel here!

1. Trace Your Spigot

Pop the spout covering off your boxed wine and use it to trace a circle near the bottom of your pumpkin. This will be the hole for the spigot.

2. Cut the Top Opening

Draw a large circle on the top of your pumpkin (big enough to fit the wine bag inside) and carefully cut it out with your box cutter.

3. Carve the Spigot Hole

Cut out the small circle you traced for the spigot and remove the foam piece.

4. Insert the Wine Bag

Remove the bag of wine from its box. Gently slide it into the pumpkin through the top opening. Pull the spigot through the hole you cut so it sits neatly outside the pumpkin.

5. Dress It Up (Optional)

If you’re feeling crafty, write a festive saying on the front or tie a ribbon around the stem for extra flair.

And that’s it—you’ve got yourself a DIY pumpkin wine decanter that’s guaranteed to wow your guests.
