Supplies You’ll Need:
✅ Three colors of tissue paper (I used pale pink, peach, and white with silver stars)
✅ String (any lightweight string will work)
✅ Tape
✅ Scissors or a rotary cutter (makes cutting tasks super quick!)
✅ Stapler
✅ Large balloons (these are the exact 36″ balloons I used for mine!)
✅ Balloon column stands (must-have for keeping these upright!)
✅ Electric balloon pump (trust me, for just $15, you’ll thank me later)
Step-by-Step: How to Make a Tassel Balloon Tail
OK, here’s the step-by-step process for how to make a tassel balloon tail. Simply follow the instructions and accompanying visuals!

1️⃣ Layer Your Tissue Paper
- Take two sheets of your first color and lay them out lengthwise.
- Repeat with your other two colors and stack them on top.
2️⃣ Find the Center
- Fold the stack lengthwise to create a crease in the middle.
3️⃣ Attach Your String
- Lay your string along the crease, leaving a few inches at both ends.
- Tape it in place so it doesn’t shift around.
4️⃣ Fold & Staple
- Fold the tissue over the string along the crease.
- Staple about ½ inch from the fold along the entire length.
5️⃣ Cut the Fringe
- Using scissors or a rotary cutter, cut slits up to ½ inch before the fold.
- DO NOT cut all the way through!
- Continue down the entire length so you have fringe all the way down.
6️⃣ Fluff It Up
- Hold the string and shake out the fringe to give it some volume.
7️⃣ Attach to Your Balloon
- Tie the tassel tail to the balloon and admire your handiwork!

But Wait… Why Won’t My Balloon Float?!
Here’s the thing: balloons with fringe tassel tails are heavy. Even with helium, these balloons have trouble staying up. I learned this when researching reviews—tons of people complained their helium balloons didn’t float! DON’T LET THIS BE YOU, or you’ll have a bit of a balloon bummer on your hands…
So, what’s the fix? Balloon column stands. Not only will these keep your fringe balloons upright, but you can use multiple to create a gorgeous fringe balloon backdrop!
How to Assemble Your Balloon Column Stand

1️⃣ Screw the telescoping pole into the base.
2️⃣ Fill the provided weight with water and place it over the base.
3️⃣ Attach the balloon holder to the top of the pole.
4️⃣ Extend the pole to your desired height.
5️⃣ Tie your tassel balloon tail to the clip.
6️⃣ Attach your inflated balloon to the top.
🎈 Pro Tip: Get an electric balloon pump. These giant balloons take forever to inflate manually—this pump will save you so much time! Plus, it’ll come in handy for that next balloon garland you volunteer to make!
